GOOD BOOKS GALORE

The shortlist for The Hindu Young World-Goodbooks Awards 2017 is out! Funky Rainbow congratulates the authors, illustrators and publishers who have been nominated. The winners will be announced at The Hindu Lit for Life Festival at Chennai in January 2017.

THE HINDU YOUNG WORLD-GOODBOOKS BEST ILLUSTRATOR AWARD 2017

  • Taposhi Ghoshal for The Story of Hanuman (Red Turtle)
  • Priya Kuriyan for Princess Easy Pleasy (Karadi Tales)
  • Mihir Joglekar for Cricket for the Crocodile (Penguin)
  • Shrujana Niranjani Shridhar for Ammu’s Kawandi (Katha)

The Hindu Young World-Goodbooks Awards are the first in India to recognize different genres in children’s publishing and to reward authors and illustrators for their invaluable contribution.

In its first year, the award-winning books included:

  • Best Picture Book – Story: Bumboo… The Donkey Who Would Not Budge by Sujatha Padmanabhan (Eklavya)
  • Best Picture Book – Illustrations: The Alphabet of Animals and Birds by Prabha Mallya (Red Turtle)/Honourable Mention: The Fifth Lane by Madhuri Purandare (Jyotsna Prakashan)
  • Best Book – Fiction: Dead as a Dodo by Venita Coelho (Hachette)/Honourable Mention: Manan by Mohit Parikh (HarperCollins)
  • Best Book – Non-Fiction: The House that Sonabai Built by Vishakha Chanchani (Tulika)/
  • Honourable Mention: Gender Talk: Big Hero, Size Zero by Anusha Hariharan and Sowmya Rajendran (Tulika)
