RAVANA REFUSES TO DIE

Buzz-E ROTFL when she heard the title of the latest book from Duckbill, Ravana Refuses to Die. It was industrious Ant-E who reminded her and us of the interesting news headline that appeared a few years ago. At a Ramlila event in Agra, the actor playing Ravana decided to bask in the limelight for much longer than was required and took life in his own hands by … erm … simply refusing to die!

The title and the first story in the book, “Ravana Refuses to Die”, seems to have been inspired by this incident. Written by Rustom Dadachanji, this rollicking collection of four short stories narrates the adventures of the Babubari Gang consisting of four youngsters, Chippa, Chipkili, Jitu and Muru, who live in Babubari village and get embroiled in every adventure that happens there – from sinister sadhus and slimy sethjis to annoyed actors and mischievous monkeys. Each story is a standalone adventure with references to Indian mythology (the Ramayana) and modern science.

Priya Kuriyan’s cover illustration makes the book an absolute pick-me-up, while the ones inside draw you into the stories and make you LOL.
