There’s always a buzz in Birdywood. In Shamim Padamsee’s last book, Birdywood Buzz, the great Mor Khan was auditioning for his latest movie. And this time? The jungle is hosting the biggest ever sporting event, The Great Birdywood Games! Birds that fly and those that don’t, come from all corners of the world to see who is fastest, strongest and flies highest. Old records are smashed and new champions emerge as admiring spectators cheep and tweet, flap and stomp in encouragement. A small fight breaks out but Mor Khan steps in quickly to soothe ruffled feathers.
Shamim Padamsee’s second book starring birds – nearly 40 of them! – is a cool take on the Olympic Games, and no less spectacular. Soumya Menon’s well-researched and engagingly delineated characters dive and flip and flap across the pages in a brilliant display of avian splendour. Along with Birdywood Buzz, The Great Birdywood Games is a wonderful introduction to birdlife.
