Funky Rainbow

Funky Rainbow ~ The Travelling Children’s Bookshop kicked off its fourth birthday celebrations with author-storyteller Arthi Anand today as part of the Library Love fest at The Samhita Academy. Arthi had the children of first standard listening, laughing, singing, dancing and drawing as only she can with infectious charm and effortless ease. What was special was not just the fact that it is the first event of our birthday month, but that coincidentally we had started off our third birthday celebrations last year with Arthi! And boy, what a fantastic year it was! Funky Rainbow travelled here, there, everywhere – we did 35 events across the city (many in association with our beloved book club Bookalore), worked with 30 authors, illustrators and storytellers and took Indian books and their creators to 20 schools and 2 universities. We grew our collection to 2500 books from 40 publishers – all Indian! The Himalayan high was when two schools picked exciting books from our curated collection and prescribed them as textbooks and supplementary readers for over 4000 children, who we hope are enjoying sneezing with a gentle elephant, growing up with an imperfect princess, solving mysteries with a mighty emperor, travelling through India via alphabets and folktales and much more.

None of this would be possible without the support and generosity of the writers, illustrators, editors, publishers, distributors, teachers, principals and schools who believe in us. Team Funky Rainbow doffs its hat to all of you for helping us dream our dreams in glorious technicolour.

And oh, today happens to be World Chocolate Day – for us at Funky Rainbow, there could be no sweeter treat than starting the birthday month again with our good luck charm, Arthi. Going by what happened last year, all we can say is that a rainbow of possibilities lies ahead…
