This booklet discusses some foundational ideas related to supporting script acquisition and fluency in early grades. The first brief introduces the reader to the concept of phonological awareness, discusses its importance in early grades and suggests a range of activities for the young learners. The second brief examines some pertinent concerns around teaching and learning of Indian scripts. It also presents some classroom activities and games, that could be adapted in classrooms. The last brief introduces “Readers’ Theatre”, yet another engaging exercise that supports fluency.
